Did the hippies lose? Or did they just grow up?

What's left of their dreams of freedom, community and spiritual awakening? Where are they now: the children of the sun, the prophets of love, the rebels who gave us LSD and protest songs? Do they still believe in changing the world—or did they end up wearing yoga pants and attending breath-training workshops, renouncing the struggle for a better future? Age of Aquarius is a musical journey in the footsteps of a generation that believed love was all you needed to change the world, and that music and chanting “Make love, not war” would be enough. What remains of this revolution today? What have we repressed and what have we inadvertently inherited? Has their utopia faded like the colours on psychedelic posters? The show is about the successors of the flower children who look for meaning in an age when the only sure thing in life is having to update the operating system on your phone. It's also the story of hippies in People's Poland, who rebelled against the oppressiveness and drabness of the system in a country officially free of consumerism. Surveilled by the Militia, ridiculed by state propaganda, they danced in public squares, founded communes, put up tents and laid flowers in spots where walls were meant to rise. Age of Aquarius is a journey across time and across continents: an expedition that not only ventures into a colourful world of myth but looks at what remains of that myth. Dreams from over fifty years ago clash with the brutal reality of the 21st century. It is a story about a world that did not manage to become a better place, but still might. A story about how all of us—regardless of age—yearn for love, peace and freedom: for a place where we can just be ourselves.
